Notary Services

A notary public may witness or certify and attest the execution of a document; certify and attest a true copy of a document; and exercise the powers of a commissioner for taking affidavits in Ontario (R.S.O. 1990, c.N.6, s.3)

Certification

It is an affirmation by a notary public that a copy of a document is a true and authentic reflection of the original version. This is required when the original document is not being submitted. 

Commissioning

A notary public administers oaths confirming that a written statement, affidavits, and other legal documents needed in court proceedings are accurate.

Notarization

It is a procedure by which a private document is transformed to a public document. This requires a notary public to confirm the identity of the signatories, witnesses the signing procedures, and lastly seal the document signed.
